If you are sexually active, you may be at risk for STIs (also commonly knowns as STDs). STIs, or Sexually Transmitted Infections, are common and often have no symptoms. According to the CDC, over 25 million new cases of STIs occur each year in the United States. This means that if you are sexually active, you are at risk of contracting an STI. It is important to have regular testing and get treatment when needed. We offer free and confidential STI testing as well as treatment when applicable.
We offer testing for a variety of STIs at the discretion of our nursing team, including:
If left untreated, these infections can lead to serious and permanent health complications. Your risk for infection increases with the number of sexual partners you have. If you feel you are at risk for having an STI or if you are experiencing symptoms of an infection, please schedule an appointment with Dove Medical.
According to the CDC, sexually active adults should be tested for STIs at least annually, as well as around 10 days after exposure to a new sexual partner. Additionally, it is recommended that pregnant individuals receive testing at the beginning of their pregnancy and potentially again before delivery if they are at higher risk for infection. Individuals who are considered “high risk,” including those with more than one sexual partner in the past six months and those who use needles to inject drugs intravenously, may need to be tested more often. Following a positive STI result and treatment, it is recommended that you re-test after 90 days to ensure that treatment was effective.
We offer lab-quality urine tests, self-swabbed vaginal and rectal swabs, and blood testing at the discretion of our Family Nurse Practitioner.
Results are typically available within a week of testing. Some results are available much sooner. We will schedule a phone follow-up appointment for you to receive your results and schedule treatment if needed in a confidential environment. Our Family Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses will be available to answer questions you may have.
